Officially in the Yorkshire Dales the limestone landscape has evolved a labyrinth of caves and waterways over thousands of years.

Natural processes have beautifully decorated the insides of the caves with spectacular formations of stalagmites (top down) and stalactites (bottom up).

Although the walk ways are often concrete paths without steps, the cave is not suitable for wheelchair users and some stooping to 1.4 m is required in two areas.

The  Cave shop sells reasonably priced snacks and sweets, ice cream and hot/cold drinks.

Hard hats are provided in a variety of sizes and the tour guide will often be a caving enthusiast working to their own script.

The Cave tours, ever popular with families, are open to to the public and is very popular with school groups and cavers.

What to Wear

Walking clothes and shoes, warm clothing (9 degrees C inside) and jacket (the roof drips)
