The Toll House Inn has a long history, starting out as a Corporation Toll House to collect taxes from market traders entering Lancaster. It was rebuilt in 1901 as the Corporation Arms, Later known as the Farmer's Arms and the White Cross Hotel.
In 2007 Daniel Thwaites redeveloped the property into the Penny Street Bridge and in 2015 refurbished and rebranded the Inn as Toll House Inn as a tribute to the heritage of the plot.
