Vintage by the Sea Festival is an award winning festival led by designer Wayne, Geraldine and Jack Hemingway. It "burst onto the festival scene back in 2013" and has returned annually since. The event won Large Tourism Event Award at the Lancashire Tourism Awards in 2016.
This is a multi-venue affair, with the iconic Midland Hotel and The Platform at the epicenter. The fabulous Promenade and seafront provides the perfect backdrop for a weekend of live vintage music performances and DJ sets, rubberneck vintage car displays, peruse a museum like marquee of vintage stalls, tour a vintage fun fair and examine some feature attractions.
Thousands of visitors flock to the town to listen and dance to swing, rockabilly, mod and soul music, taste period cocktails and dress up in their finest vintage clothing.
Children needn't miss out in the excitement around this trip into yesteryear. Hundreds flock to the live Punch and Judy show, where humored and aghast children follow along with an ensemble of miniature costumed figures as they expressively bicker and squabble .
There is a rare chance to experience historic fairground rides such as the Horses carousel, swing ride and Ferris wheel plus all the rides a modern fairground offers.
Vintage aviation is spectacularly celebrated, for example, in 2015 a Spitfire was parked for all to see close-up right outside the Midland Hotel. The crew, all dressed in period garb really dre the crown and a lucky few actually got to sit in the pilots seat. Later a Douglas C-47 Dakota heavily flew over the heads of the crowd before banking hard and slow over the bay to return in a final display right over the Midland Hotel.
Vintage clothing enthusiasts are in for a treat in the extensive stall marquee. It isn't often you'll get to frisk through an entire rail of classic jackets or dresses, try on period jewelry or contemplate yourself in an entirely different decade.
External stalls will have you gazing on many fabulous articles of yesteryear designed to entice the collector in us.
